Announcing our New General Manager: Alec Hubert
Kamloops Golf & Country Club announces new General Manager
March 5th, 2019
Kamloops, BC – A new leader at the tee box
The new year at Kamloops Golf & Country Club began with an announcement of resignation from Brice MacDermott, General Manager, who has now begun a new journey in Alberta at the Windermere Golf & Country Club.
The Member-owned golf course began its search for their new leader, seeking to find the perfect candidate before the snow melted and the golf season got underway. The Board of Directors enlisted a committee for this process, which also included feedback from their shareholder community.
The Committee shortlisted the original 60 applicants to 20, then to 10, then to 7, then to 5. Each candidate at this stage was asked to send a ten-minute video presentation. After viewing the videos, the candidates were shortlisted to just two applicants for in-person interviews on February 22.
With the approval of the Board of Directors, the Country Club is pleased to announce to their shareholders, members, golf industry, and the community their decision. The new General Manager is someone well known in the industry, and the Board has selected the golf courses current Head Professional, Alec Hubert. He will commence his new duties officially on April 1, 2019.
Alec joined the Kamloops Golf & Country Club team in July of 2016 and had immediately established himself as a leader in the Pro Shop, very quickly being promoted to Head Professional.
Alec has been a member of the PGA of Canada since 2008 when he decided to pursue a career in golf and was given a start at the prestigious Royal Ottawa Golf Club. It was here that Alec was mentored by some of the National Capital Region’s best CPGA professionals. At The Royal Ottawa GC he was able to learn all of the aspects of operating a pro shop and was able to hone his ability as an instructor. In 2011 he was awarded the Assistant Professional of the Year within the Ottawa Zone and in 2013 Alec earned Class A status within the PGA of Canada. In 2014 Alec joined a team of instructors at the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort and continued to hone his craft as a leader, instructor and player. In both the 2014/15 seasons Alec won the Kootenay Pro Series Order of Merit and Tour Championships.
Since he joined the team at Kamloops Golf & Country Club, he has been awarded as one of the PGA of BC Top 100 Golf Professionals in British Columbia for the 2016, 2017, and 2018 seasons. He has also been a continual supporter and fundraiser for the ALS Society of BC.
Alec lives for the game of golf and will be a strength for the Country Club as their new General Manager.
