The Palmer Room
The Palmer Room aka “The Old Smoking Room”
A group of dedicated members has come together to lead the charge in raising funds for the Palmer Room. They were interested in doing something to improve both the clubhouse itself and the role of the clubhouse in generating revenue for the course. We believe we have the best course in the area but the clubhouse needs some work to bring it up to a commensurate level. In renovating the old smoking room, not only will the aesthetics of the club house improve, but the Palmer Room will provide the opportunities for bigger and more diverse events at the club. This additional revenue stream will then assist with continued capital improvements.
The project needed an identity (something better than the Old Smoking Room!) and it was decided that naming it after our first Superintendent and Golf Pro, Rod Palmer, would be fitting. Thus the Palmer Room was born. The goal was to create three fund raising events to establish the capital for the project and could involve people in many ways.
Support by members was excellent and based on the original proposals and estimates, we will have enough to complete the project. All three events were successful, thanks to hard work by all the committees involved and the participation of so many of our members.
The Patron Wall Fundraiser saw 49 of our members donate, 46 of whom purchased plaques to show their support or to remember loved ones. The plaques will be completed this summer and placed on the Patron Wall in the fall after completion of the renovation.
The Membership Squares also was successful with over half the squares being sold. The winner of the membership for 2019 was Murray Hopkins.
Our Mexican Scramble saw 90 members and guests engage in an exciting and fun 9-hole event which also included a series of games, a Silent Auction, a Restaurants Raffle, 50/50 and the vocalizations of Cristal Odenbach. The food was great and the room was loud. It was excellent night and we hope to repeat some version of it every year. Thank you to the committee and all those who participated.
The contractor is planning to start work on the room in early August with completion scheduled for early September.
Again, thank you to all those who supported this proposal, both as members of the various committees and by donating time, money and effort.
